Smartphone Panic Button Apps for Kindergarten-12th Grade School Safety Examined in New White Paper

“Guide to Inbound Emergency Alerting for K-12 Schools & Districts” White Paper published by DefenCall explores how smartphone app technology can improve student safety

May 28, 2013 – New Canaan, CT – Defentect Group, Inc.  (OTC Pink: DFTC) a leading intelligent threat awareness firm, through its subsidiary DefenCall, Inc., today announced the publication of a new white paper. The “Guide to Inbound Alerting for K-12 Schools & Districts” explores how schools can use smartphone panic button apps as part of their overall school safety plan to improve security. Smartphone panic button apps allow teachers and staff to tap a single button on their phones to make an emergency call while simultaneously sending an alert message including their GPS location by text , email and monitoring dashboard to first responders and school administrators. The results are faster response and better situational awareness for responders.

Technology advancements, especially the proliferation of smartphones, have dramatically increased the number of options available for student safety. The purpose of the “Guide to Inbound Emergency Alerting for K-12 Schools & Districts” is to introduce school administrators, safety personnel and parent organizations to using personal smartphones as emergency alerting devices and discuss how smartphone panic buttons fit into a comprehensive school safety toolbox.

The white paper specifically covers:

  • What inbound emergency alerting is
  • How smartphone panic button apps work including integration with emergency calling, text messaging, email and dispatch systems
  • Comparison to wired and pendent panic button systems
  • Why schools should consider adding inbound alerting to their school security plan

“With the increased interest in panic buttons, school officials need to be aware of all the options available to them to improve how teachers and staff call for help when an emergency happens,” said James C. Ackerly, CEO of DefenCall. “This white paper explains how schools can leverage smartphone technology to improve emergency communication and overall student safety.”
